Ryerson Commerce Society hosts Student Group Leadership Retreat in Geneva Park
We had eight members represent RSBA: President Adam Kohut, VP of Public Relations Nicholas Wong, VP of Marketing Noah Faigal, VP of Corporate Relations José Romano Lopez, VP of Finance Mohammed El Abshihy, Director of Marketing Avraj Gill, Director of Public Relations Vinarm Gupta, and Creative Director Karam Singh. Each member sported a custom-printed baseball jersey with our logo.
Special Project Assistant Anna Servedio oversaw the planning of SGLR, along with RCS's Events Committee. "SGLR 2016 is one for the books! Each year the RCS does their best to listen to the feedback from the years prior to enhance the short time these 140 student leaders have together. With all the hard work Rebecca Manson and Maria Lionti put into planning, I can truthfully say, this year, student leadership at TRSM will be spectacular due to the bonding that happened at SGLR."
Position specific sessions gave each VP and Director an opportunity to engage with their fellow executives from different student groups. The Marketing seminar, held by RCS VP of Marketing Haseeb Khawaja, allowed Marketing VPs to share ideas on different techniques of boosting online presence and selling apparel. By the end of these meetings, each student could take away what they learned and apply it back to their own respective student group.
Geneva Park offered a plethora of outdoor activities - beach volleyball, basketball, tennis, soccer, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboarding - all by the edge of Lake Couchiching. Many of these team sports provided a channel for team building across various student groups.
Students could unwind with social evening events, hosted by the RCS. One evening featured students from the Ryerson Student Union, who held a retreat that overlapped with SGLR.
Students still wishing to partake in student groups next year will have the fortunate opportunity to attend SGLR again.
